EAGLE & SHIELD FIREBACK

With the adoption of the Great Seal of the United States in 1782, the
decorative use of the American bald eagle was applied to numerous household
items. This fireback is believed to have been cast in England for the American
market some time between 1780 and 1810.
In order to better accomodate contemporary hearth proportions, this
reproduction casting is five inches shorter than the original fireback.
